Careers in Biotech: A Speed Networking Event

Interested in learning about all the different fields you can apply your advanced science degree? Join the 2015-16 ANEC in New York City on April 11th for a speed networking event. You’ll get the chance to learn about career options from FOBIP alumni working in the fields of equity research, consulting, technology transfer, marketing and business development. SPEAKER BIOS

Adriana Arita, PhD

Adriana is currently an Associate Consultant at Prescient Health Care Group. Prior to joining Prescient, Adriana was employed at New York University as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine. Her primary roles at NYU were to conduct research and teach toxicology classes to Master’s and PhD students. Before joining NYU, Adriana completed her postdoctoral studies at Mount Sinai Medical Center in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology conducting research for a clinical trial for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Adriana was also a cancer research training fellow at the National Institutes of Health National Cancer Institute.

Adriana has a BS degree in Biology with minor in Chemistry from the University of Miami, and a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology from New York University School of Medicine. Adriana’s PhD thesis title was “The Effect of Nickel on Gene Expression and Global Histone Marks”.

Adebanke Fagbemi, PhD

Banke holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Stony Brook University, a MS in Biology from Montclair State University, and a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Upon completion of her PhD, Banke’s first position was as a consultant to the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry at Prescient Healthcare Group consulting on strategy and competitive intelligence for just under 2 years. She left Prescient for a short stint at the defunct start-up Belrose Pharma in Princeton NJ, being there for only 7 months before the company closed business. Following her time at Belrose Pharma, she joined the Marketing Team at GENEWIZ, a contract genomics service provider where she was Product Marketing Specialist for the Next Generation Sequencing and Regulatory Services for 2 years. Banke very recently joined BioReference Laboratories in NJ as Product Manager for GenPath Women’s Health where she manages the marketing strategy and initiatives for InheriGen carrier screening, inherited cancer other prenatal genetic testing.

Yukiji Fujimoto, PhD

Yukiji Fujimoto is a Manager for the Innovation and Technology Development team. She is responsible for the analysis, assessment and evaluation of commercial viability of technology; as well as, maintaining the HSS patent portfolio. In addition, Yukiji drafts, reviews and negotiates some of the incoming and outgoing agreements (e.g. MTAs, consulting, technical testing). Yukiji is a skilled research scientist with expertise in chemistry and glycobiology and has published a number of research papers in peer reviewed journals. She is applying her scientific knowledge in the business sector and as a person who has lived in New York her whole life; she is also committed to help make the New York metro region more successful in the bioscience industry. Yukiji received her PhD in Chemistry with a specialty in Computational Biology from Stony Brook University and a BA concentrating in Chemistry and Art History from Sarah Lawrence College. In addition, she is an alumna of the Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry program.

Rachel Lane, PhD

Dr. Rachel Lane is an Associate Analyst, Biotechnology at H.C. Wainwright & Co., a New York based investment bank. At H.C.W, Dr. Lane is responsible for providing investment recommendations for mid to large-cap biotechnology companies, with a specific focus on neurological disease.  Prior to joining H.C.W, Dr. Lane was the Associate Director at the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) where she managed the foundation’s annual $10M venture philanthropy fund, supporting a portfolio of preclinical and clinical drug development programs with both academic and industry partners. In this role, Dr. LANE was additionally responsible for developing cross-sector partnerships with specific examples including, Pfizer CTI, the Harrington Discovery Institute/Biomotiv and ADDF ACCESS. Dr. Lane earned her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Sheffield, UK and completed postdoctoral training with Dr. Sam Gandy at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She serves on several scientific review boards including the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation and Bio and Health Tech Entrepreneurship Lab NYC (Elab NYC).
